Each year when Tom asks me about my favorite music of the year I have a few sleepless nights. I have a hard time choosing a favorite when there are so many great ones out there. This year my vote goes out to Joep Beving with his album Prehension. Minimal, atmospheric music that is great to thoughtfully listen to and also works well as background music while writing codes for Gigstarter.
Lizzy V - Out of Time

In 2015 Lizzy won the Gigstarter artist of the year award and she keeps making good songs ever since. Like the pop-song: Out of Time that came out this summer. Watch this cute videoclip with the young version of Lizzy in it.
Mura Masa - Mura Masa

Finally, the album of this talented beatmaker is finished. Full of hits because a lot of the songs are already well known all around the world. But it's good to have this mix of nicely produced hip-hop, pop and all others genres finally on one album.
Imagine Dragons - Evolve

My favorite album of the year is Evolve from Imagine Dragons. I saw them at the Rock Werchter festival this year and will see them again in the Ziggo Dome in February 2018. Already a nice prospect for the new year!
Michelle Gurevich aka Chinawoman

Spanish artists on Gigstarter

This year a lot of Spanish artists subscribed to Gigstarter, we now have 240 artists on the Spanish version of the website. I would like to highlight a great Spanish profile of Gigstarter: DJ Frank Gomez. DJ Frank Gomez almost got named ‘Gigstarter DJ of the Year’ but by a couple of votes he had to give away this title to DJ Mike Gerritsen. Great DJ set to start the weekend with!

Red Herring – Here to Distract you
Gorgeous new album from the Dutch bluegrass band Red Herring. On their third album you find some great melodies, combined with polyphonic singing. But as a listener you also get surprised on the album by the influences of country and Americana music. If you have a chance to see them live, take that opportunity!
Fabian - Saints
We always like new initiatives that put music in the spotlight. Just like the Spittin’ Blues Sessions that are bringing a lot of talented musicians together to record some original songs. Hear this version of Saints by Fabian.
Nootmuskaat - Lekker op mijn plaat
And last but not least, we want to mention Nootmuskaat! The band is formed by the founder of Gigstarter Paul de Kuyper who released their debut album Lekker op mijn plaat this year. Dutch pop-songs that you can swing and dance to.
