This time she reached the most wins of all time with 32 Grammy’s throughout her career leaving musicians like Stevie Wonder (25), Kanye West (24), Adele (16), and Michael Jackson (13) behind. However, for the fourth time, she lost in one of the main categories “Album of the year”, which was given to Harry Styles.
Kim Petras winning Grammy as a first transgender woman
No doubt you have heard at least once the new song “Unholy” by Sam Smith and Kim Petras. Well, except for being a major TikTok hit, this tune gave us a chance to witness history in the LGBTQ+ community. With the help of the fans “Unholy” won Best Pop Duo Performance, which was excepted by Kim Petras with the kind support of her duet partner. She was always open about her transitioning journey and it is incredible to see that the hard work of a person no matter gender, sexuality, or race is paying off.
Bonnie Raitt Wins Song of the Year
This nomination was one of the most unexpected moments of Grammy’s as the competition for the “Song of the Year” was stronger than ever. Don’t get us wrong this amazing blues singer with tones of awards behind her back and a heartbreaking story that lyrics tell us, more than deserves it. However, no one could predict this winning among hits of Adele, Harry Styles, and Lizzo, which were playing on radio stations, public places, and social media.
50 years Anniversary of hip-hop
This hip-hop tribute at the Grammy’s was one of the most nostalgic and spectacular performances in years. The line-up included Big Boi, Grandmaster Flash, Nelly, Lil Baby, Queen Latifah, and many more legends. Imagine, how hard it is to squeeze into minutes the works of musical geniuses for half a century. However, despite the complicated and contentious relationship between the Academy and representatives of the genre, a great celebration of hip-hop was given.
Viola Davis earning the rare EGOT status
To begin with, EGOT(Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) is an award given to extraordinary people who have won all four main entertainment prizes. Grammy 2023 became the final point of Viola’s journey to EGOT. The actress won her prize “Best Spoken Word” for her audiobook Finding Me. This woman inspiring hundreds of people around the world with her talent finally achieved this honor becoming the third Black woman in history.
